Gorillaz - Hey! Our Toys Have Arrived! (SUB ITA)
I still remember how listening to Man Research (clapper) felt on my brain when I first listened to it at 13 years old.
*13:41* MURDOC CAMEO YALL
I think the most aggregious example of the sampling is medium excited teenage crowd Hollywood edge sound effects. Now I can't even listen to dare without thinking of it
As a Japanese, Doncamatic sample is actually saying "Donkamade".
14:33 You should’ve probably mentioned that FM is specifically a cover of a Steely Dan song.
I wasn't aware of it, I should have been better informed. Thanks for the clarification.
@@24danidog No worries!
the beginning of tomorrow comes today reminds me of amy winehouse "You Know I'm No Good"
"All alone" it has a sample of "Film trailer music" in the minute 2:23
This got me in the mood to draw gorillaz yet again and it turned into one of the best drawings i've ever made
Actually Sick Parrot is released, it’s instrumental was reused for Bobby Womacks song Jubilee
oh god.... you're right! I had never noticed it! Thank you!
@@24danidog your welcome. theres actually a live in studio performance of the song with Damon
this is insane
eye opener
wow
5:58 WAIT A DAMN SECOND IS THAT THE MOTHER 3 THING?
i have 19-2000 as my ringtone and every time i hear it my heart skips a beat
Damn they where super creative with these Samples
This is how I discovered Raymond Scott lol
Me too hahaha
they really fell off honestly
How?
Their last album is sooooo bad. Their pre plastic beach stuff is the best IMO
@@jonahnewt4412 whats wrong with tarantula, oil, cracked island and silent running
@@jonahnewt4412 after plastic beach I think she's my collar was the only song I actually listen to and enjoy. Their newer stuff just feels so soulless and pop-y, DEFINITELY not my style. Normally I wouldn'tve cared but they used to be so cool and now they've just lost that original Gorillaz vibe we all loved :(( oh well
@@hakai1014 nothing's "wrong" with it, it just feels like a different gorillaz. Even the animation style's changed (in my opinion a LOT more for the worse) and cracker island just sounds so terrible compared to something as iconic as 19-2000 but this is all just super subjective and relative to your own taste. I just feel like they've lost their originality and what made them Gorillaz instead of some random band
The Day of the Dead sample is actually from the movie literally the first scene.
small note for clint eastwood's sample (1:48), the sample is from a preset on the suzuki omnichord (which is an instrument from japan made in the 80s), and the specific preset is 'Rock 1'. love this video!
Rock 1 preset will forever be the best sample lmao
911 was a single, not a bside.
I’m addition to using the Day of the Dead music in M1 A1, they also sampled audio of the character from 28 Days later calling out in London 😮
O
to be honest, it blows my mind each sample comparission
These are awesome
8:45 my introduction to Gorillaz. This was today.
Like, your first time listening to the band?
@@milkamoussse correct :) listening to dirty harry with those samples was blissful
Funny how they sampled Jamie Principle for a different song on the same album they had him on as a feature
I didn't realize that Gorillaz used many samples for their music until now
I love ur videos man
Honestly this just made me love the debut album even more
1:46 My Favorite 2000s Song. ♥️

OMG
Soldier boy is my favorite gorillaz song 😞😞
911 sounds like a banger omg

I can't compare wordy rappinghood to Feel Good inc. Sorry, I don't think that's a good sample.
Gorillaz (and Daft Punk) I think best highlight that sampling is an art form in itself. It's one thing to merely copy paste a backing track for the beat, it's another thing entirely to transform it. Taking samples and remix them, mix them with other samples, build on them with your own recordings, and make an entirely new song. Also it highlights their good taste in music. I'm personally a fan of the funk songs they've sampled from.
This is why I love hip-hop. Reusing pieces of old media keeps them alive, and sampling itself inspires creativity, not to mention if you're skilled enough you get a fire song. It's the gift that keeps on giving :P
My thoughts exactly!!!! Been obsessed with both bands for over a decade now xx
so do Song Machine and The Now Now not have any samples in them? I can see this video was made before Cracker Island, so samples or not it obviously wasn't going to be covered, I just wondered if this means they sort of abruptly stopped using sampling after Humanz?
murdoc mio marito
I almost cried when I heard the Yodeling Pickle sample, man Truly one of the great audio engineering feats of the 21st Century
What is the song in the end of the vid
come ho fatto a non vederlo prima XD??!! è fantastico Duane!!
I had pirate's progress as an alarm for some years in school and omfg it was effective to wake me up
Having an unreleased song of your fav band as an alarm🤔🤣🤣
@@aleksdizhe wasn't Pirate's Progress a bonus track for the deluxe version?
@@TheVisgames oh really???? I didn't know that🤣
funfact, the blur demo "i got law" is what was used to make "tomorrow comes today"
the use of sampling in the fall makes alot of sense lore wise considering 2D made it on an ipad and i love that
Damon Albarn made it on an iPad. 2-D is a cartoon character.

so basically they stole shit. glad to know that the talent i thought was there, wasn't actually ever there.
Bro doesn’t know how samples work, you would never get these songs if it wasn’t gorillaz ever used a sample, which isn’t stealing at all (besides Intro)
@@hakai1014 yeah I'd rather not have them if they were made off the backs of others
@@macrocosm2778 ah not liking songs because they used a sample because theres no “talent”
@@hakai1014 I wouldn't say that I don't like it, but I heavily resent it
Or you just don’t know how the music industry works.. everybody uses samples wether you like it or not. It can be a simple drum or snare sampled by another artist from the 90s. It’s not stealing, it’s creating new sounds by an existent sound and there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s called „sampling“ for a reason. The band did an amazing job sampling the instrumentals or singers 🤦🏽♀️ the talent is still there, especially creating a whole new song just by a small bit of a sample, sampling is such a hard thing to do in progress
